Uxbridge pennywort (2).jpg

16th September

As part of Big Yellow’s community engagement at our new Uxbridge store, we teamed up with local residents, the charity Groundwork and our project team, to tackle the build-up of Pennywort along the River Colne. Pennywort is a non-native, invasive species that spreads aggressively causing blockages in the UK’s rivers and waterways.

During the course of the day we were able to assist in clearing a large patch of Pennywort, allowing the river to again flow freely along this stretch.

The collaboration advantage
Over the last 20 years, our in-house construction team has gained an enviable reputation for delivering good looking buildings. Take a look at the drone footage taken during the erection of the steel frame for our new Big Yellow store at Uxbridge. The elegant simplicity of the building is self-evident as the structural skeleton emerges from the concrete substructure adjacent to the River Colne.
Here at Big Yellow, we recognise that to perform at a consistently high level, you need a good team around you. This is why we are really proud of the long-term relationships, forged over many years, with our supply chain partners.
The frame seen here is the 20th project Nationwide Structures has completed for Big Yellow; the main contractor MCS Group is on store number six.
Paragon are appointed on six new stores. These are just a few examples which demonstrate Big Yellow’s commitment to develop meaningful and beneficial partnerships within the building team.
There are of course many other companies, between 70 and 80, involved in the construction of a store from inception through to store opening. A good proportion of the professional consultants, specialist installers and suppliers have been employed by Big Yellow since the first store was constructed in the year 2000.
We recognise we would not have achieved the successful completion of 78 stores, representing over 4.5million sq. foot MLA, without collaborating with each and every one of our supply chain partners. We have had to work hard over the years to develop our relationship, so they are truly beneficial, through both the good and more challenging times.
As we press on towards our goal of 5+ million sq. ft MLA and 100 stores, preserving our good working relationships with all of our partners has never been so important.
