When starting at Big Yellow and Armadillo we make sure you have everything you need through our induction program based at our Guildford Central Training Hub. Later on down the line we encourage our staff to explore further courses, E-Learning, additional qualifications and apprenticeships.
Can I apply for more than one store vacancy?
We encourage candidates to apply for any role we advertise, even if your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every aspect of the job. The Talent Team will screen your application and put you forward for the position they believe best suits you.
What is the recruitment process?
The Talent Team personally screen each CV submitted to assess a candidate’s suitability to the role and their personal attributes. When making an application, we would encourage candidates to select a location that provides you a sustainable commute to and from work.
Having reviewed your application, if you meet our selection criteria you will be invited to a telephone interview, as the first stage of our process.
If successful, you will move on to the second stage of our process which includes a face-to-face interview in store. As part of this stage, you will complete a numeracy and email exercise, followed by our on the job experience, to help you understand what a typical day at Big Yellow / Armadillo looks like.
For those applying for Store or Deputy Manager positions, there is an additional face-to-face interview to conclude the process.
If your application is for a Head Office position, we typically conduct a two-stage process consisting of a telephone interview before being invited to complete a face-to-face interview. For senior positions, you may be asked to attend a second face-to-face.
I’ve applied for a position; how long do I need to wait before I hear back?
After an application, you will receive a confirmation email. We aim to update all candidates within 48 hours (excluding weekends). We know that waiting can be tough, but we kindly ask for your patience whilst we conduct our recruitment process. Please do keep an eye on your junk email just in case our response has gone there.
What documentation should I take with me to an interview?
All candidates must bring their Right to Work documents when attending a face-to-face interview. It is our legal obligation to ensure anyone we are looking to employ is legally entitled to work in the UK before employment begins.
Your documents will be checked by the hiring manager/s conducting the interview and verified by the Talent Team. If you are unable to provide satisfactory evidence of your Right to Work in the UK, we will not be able to progress your application any further.
To verify your documentation meets the legal obligation, please visit the Right to Work checklist on the Governments website.
I’ve had an interview; how long can I expect to wait for an outcome?
All of our store and head office positions are different, but your interviewer should provide an approximate timeframe for next steps at each stage of the process. If you haven’t heard from us within 2 weeks, don’t panic – drop us a message at talent@bigyellow.co.uk.
