Manchester
The Manchester store is positioned at the gateway to the Castlefield regeneration area of Manchester City Centre, accordingly Manchester Council planning authority set Big Yellow a challenge to construct an iconic building which used materials which reflected the city’s industrial heritage. Adjacent to the store is a railway viaduct with tracks where Stephenson’s ‘Rocket’ is rumoured to have run on. Our architects, Mountford Pigott won the planning authority over with their take on a packing box made of Corten rusty steel perched on a concrete plinth surrounded by lush planted beds and mature pine trees.
