The site of the new store was predominantly open land adjacent to a sewage treatment works during the early part of the 20th Century. The land remained as such until the properties were constructed in the late 1930’s just prior to the start of the 2nd World War. Factories were built on adjacent land in the early 1950’s. Current uses include a tile retailer, car servicing and body repair workshop and a publishing house.
The Property team bid for the site in August 2018 and completed the purchase in November 2018.
The new store proposal is for a self storage facility (with 1,750 sq ft flexi offices) in total approximately 70,500 sq ft MLA on ground plus five storeys.
The redevelopment proposals were submitted to the local planning authority in September 2021 and approved on 12th January 2022. We are targeting a BREEAM accreditation of Excellent.
Demolition and site clearance works are due to start in January 2023 once the units have been vacated by the tenants.
