The Property team first identified the requirement for a second store on the western side of Slough’s Town centre in September 2017. Having considered the former Trade Sales Motor Showroom, the Acquisition team settled on the Northgate Vehicle Hire and Van Monster Depot on the opposite side of the road.
The site is approximately 2 acres and located two miles from the existing Slough store, which opened in 2000. Previous uses include light industrial warehouses and a petrol filling station which are no longer evident. The site is largely a vacant plot currently used as a hardstanding for cars with a temporary portacabin.
Big Yellow completed the purchase of the freehold in April 2019. The new store proposal is for a self storage facility of approximately 90,200 sq ft MLA.
The planning application for the new building was submitted to the Council on 19th March 2021 with Planning Consent received on 5th November 2021. Section 73 Application to vary the consented elevations was approved on 10th October 2022.
